Coronation Street spoilers reveal the spectacular news that the BBC is planning to launch a soap set in the north of England. According to The Telegraph, the BBC plans for the new show to rival ITV’s Coronation Street which currently is the world’s longest-running extant soap.
In documents that outline the next six years of the corporation, execs said they are planning to launch, “two new network long-running dramas.”

The show is part of a new initiative called “Across the UK.” It has been reported that the initiative reflects the BBC’s goal to make itself less “London-centric” and to represent more of the country’s residents that pay the network’s license fee.
To this end BBC Director-General Tim Davie stated, “Our mission must be to deliver for the whole of the UK and ensure every household gets value from the BBC. These plans will get us closer to audiences, create jobs and investment, and develop and nurture new talent.”

He went on to say, “Over the last year, the BBC – which has been an essential part of the UK’s culture, democracy and creativity for almost a century – has helped inform, educate and entertain all four Nations, as we have collectively faced some of our toughest moments in recent history.”
“Now, as we look to the future, we must play our part in supporting social and economic recovery; rebuilding the creative sector and telling the stories that need to be heard from all corners of the UK.”
He concluded, “The report promises to reallocate funds so that a brand new programme – just like Beeb series EastEnders and Casualty – would come out of the North of England.”
Pundits are saying that this means the new show could rival ITV soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale, depending on where in the UK it is filmed.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Will Corrie Have Competition?
Experts are also predicting that a second series would come from one of the nations: Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Currently, EastEnders is filmed at Elstree Studios in North London along with Holby City, while Casualty is filmed at BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, Wales.
A BBC source said, “We’re still working through the exact detail but we expect it to be a long running show. That could mean anything from a weekly programme, to 30 episodes a year, but that’s all to be worked out.”
