American Idol Winner Iam Tongi Is Vindicated As The Winner

May marked the end of Season 21 of American Idol, with William a.k.a Iam Tongi being declared the winner. Even though there were accusations of rigging in his favor, he managed to prove his critics wrong by sending two of his songs to the top of Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart.

American Idol Spoilers – Katy Perry Thought Colin Stough Would Win

Season 21 was full of change and heated discussion. It was at one stage, Kary Perry who thought that Colin Stough would win. That came when he performed Dancing ON My Own. Actually, it was one thing that she said that fans could agree with. Mind you, as time went by, she seemed to be in favor of Iam Tongi, the first Pacific Islander to take the crown in the finals. 

American Idol fans slammed Kart Perry the entire season. She made some unpopular comments to the various contestants. Mind you, not everyone wants her to leave. In fact, it was David Steele, the runner-up who spoke out in her favor. He felt that she is an excellent teacher because she teaches the contestants to step things up and find their own excellence. Well, amidst all of that came the backlash about Iam. Many people thought he didn’t deserve his win. 

American Idol Spoilers – Iam Tongi Gets Billboard Success

Iam has now conclusively proven critics wrong as his songs are doing really well. Billboard reported that I’ll Be Seeing You went straight to the #1 slot. Within one week, there were over 11K downloads. Additionally, the ABBA track that he performed, The Winner Takes It All slipped into the top 20. That’s not at all bad for someone who folks claimed had not enough spark to take the crown.  

The outlet noted that the American Idol winner got a broad line of downloads:

In all, Tongi’s catalog so far moved 17,000 downloads May 19-25, a 1,899% boost from 1,000 sold May 12-18. His songs “Trust Me,” “Gone,” “Dreams” and “Efiafi,” the latter featuring Manatau Tuifua, all also accumulated 1,000 paid downloads apiece in that span.”

American Idol fans love his catchy songs, and many people don’t dislike his win at all. Of course, he put Polynesian music on the world stage and his fans couldn’t be happier. Many of them from across the Pacific can’t seem to get enough of him.
