Gossip Girl Reboot: Who’s Coming Back?

Gossip Girl

A Gossip Girl reboot is happening. Kristen Bell will make her return as the narrator for the reboot which will premiere on the streaming service HBO Max. Bell was the narrator for the original series which aired on The WB which is now The CW. The Gossip Girl series is based on young adult novels by author Cicely von Ziegesar.

Bell’s voice was prominent on the show as she took on the role of the mysterious “Gossip Girl” who was the source of the young Manhattan elite crowd. Gossip Girl ran from 2007 to 2012. The two core characters of the series were frenemies Blair Waldor (Leighton Meester) and Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively.) Bell would follow the best friends as they attended a private school located on the Upper East Side in New York City. The women grew up together as they found themselves in the center of men, rumors, and scandals while wearing the latest fashions.

Bell has been confirmed to return for the HBO Max reboot as the narrator once again, according to a report via Variety. The reboot is said to take place eight years after the Gossip Girl series finale. It’s said to follow a new cast of teenagers as they act out their lives with Gossip Girl watching. The show will focus on the perils of social media and how it’s changed New York City over the years. The Gossip Girl reboot will also be managed by the original creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

However, no official casting has been announced for the Gossip Girl reboot. But there’s been confirmation that the new series will include ten hour-long episodes. The original cast hasn’t confirmed nor denied whether they will be on the reboot. But it’s not like there’s a premiere date set in stone yet. It’s possible that a few of the original cast members could return to the Upper East Side once again. Former Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford couldn’t be any happier about the reboot coming to HBO Max.

Chace currently stars on Amazon Fire’s new show The Boys. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that he would be interested to see a Gossip Girl reboot in these digital times. He thinks it would be fascinating to watch in the social media and streaming age. Gossip Girl was ahead of its time since it came long before Instagram and Snapchat were even a thing. The rise of streaming services has given Gossip Girl a new life among the younger generation.

Gossip Girl has become popular once again thanks to Netflix. It’s even more relevant since social media has changed the way that people live out their lives. But Chace thinks there’s still a story to tell that the original series hasn’t explored yet. He’s even interested in returning to the reboot if given the chance. Chace joked that he would have to play the father figure now, but he’s grateful for the show and has “fond memories.”
