The Good Lawyer – Premiered In March 2022

In March 2023, The Good Doctor spinoff series The Good Lawyer came out with a sneak peek. The new ABC series stars Felicity Huffman and Kennedy McMann. The pilot episode premiered on March 6 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

The Good Lawyer was first announced back in October 2022. It’s a highly-anticipated new series for several reasons. The Good Doctor is a popular show starring Freddie Highmore.

He appears in the spinoff series and asks for legal help from a young lawyer named Joni DeGroot (McMann) who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Huffman starred in a guest role as a powerhouse attorney who worked for a well-respected law firm. This was Huffman’s return to television and first role since the Varsity Blues College Admissions Scandal in 2019.

She spent 14 days in federal prison and only served 11 of those days for good conduct. Huffman was convicted for paying $15,000 for her daughter Sophia to pass the SAT exam.L

New details are coming out about The Good Doctor spinoff. The ongoing writers’ strike is affecting the future of the series. In July 2023, the national board of the Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA approved the actors’ need to strike and express solidarity with the screenwriters.

During the ongoing strike, actors aren’t allowed to work their union jobs, promote their shows and movies, and attend press junkets and premieres.

The Fall 2023 lineup is looking different this year as many shows are on hiatus and reality TV shows could take their place.

ABC plans to focus on Bachelor In Paradise, The Golden Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars, Shark Tank, and other non-scripted shows.

This could affect the future of The Good Lawyer. It’s unclear when the show will return. It was slated for a 2024 release but could be pushed back due to the ongoing writers’ strike.

The strike could go past Labor Day or into the 2024 New Year.
